Former World No.1 Venus Williams is set to return to singles action at the Citi Open Washington event this summer.
The American, 42, has not played a singles match in almost a year, with her last WTA singles match being at the Chicago Women's Open last August. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion has been dealing with injuries which caused her to miss most of the season. However, she did compete in the Wimbledon mixed doubles event alongside Jamie Murray.
Williams last singles victory on tour came against Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu at Wimbledon 2021, but the Olympic gold medalist has had difficult stringing consecutive victories over the past few seasons. She is scheduled to compete at the National Bank Open in Toronto following the event in Washington.
The Citi Open runs from July 30-August 7, 2022 and is often used as a warm-up event for the US Open.
