About a week after parting ways with Sascha Bajin, Karolina Pliskova has hired a new coach and it's not one unfamiliar to her.
Pliskova and Bajin worked for a while and it was a pretty decent run for the Czech player as she found herself ranked as high as world number two after a string of solid results. Despite that, there have been a lot of disappointments as well, particularly this year as Pliskova struggled with injuries.
Friedl is not unfamiliar with Pliskova as he technically served as her coach in the past. The former world number 14 in doubles worked with Pliskova during Wimbledon of last year and the US Open swing when Bajin could not travel. Those were the best stretches of her season as she reached the Wimbledon final while also playing very strong tennis in North America.
It seems like those positive experiences left a mark on Pliskova and she decided to try it out full time.
