Matteo Berrettini played a brilliant match to easily beat 6-2 6-4 Dominic Thiem and he will play in the Gstaad final tomorrow.
It will be the 3rd final for Berrettini in his 3rd event since returning with injury and he won the two previous finals. Berrettini has a chance to make it a hat trick in Gstaad since returning to the Tour as the Italian continues to play super strong tennis. It was all about his serve in this one as Thiem struggled to control his returns which sailed wide quite often.
The conditions favour big serves, it's not a secret however Thiem generally did not play well at all. The return was not working and neither was much of anything for the Austrian. The opening set started with Berrettini completely dominating play against Thiem who looked lost. Nothing worked for him as the Italian easily cruised to a 6-1 finish.
The 2nd set was a bit better in the sense that at times he looked good. It started well for him in the 2nd set but then he fell into a hole and lost a couple of games in a row. Berrettini served for the match at 5-2 but dropped his serve eventually closing it out with 6-4. A strong win for Berrettini who moves on to the final.
