Former world number four Pat Cash stated that Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is the ‘best player’ to play on grass court. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.
Wimbledon 1987 winner Cash has spoken to Sky Sports as quoted by Tennis 365 he called Alcaraz the ‘best player’ to have ever played at the grass court. The 59-year-old went on to state that the current world number two has managed to take the best traits of the former ‘Big Three’ which makes him one of the most dangerous players currently playing in the sport.
“He hasn’t got a weakness. I almost think he is one of the best … the best player I have ever seen on grass at his best,” he said. “Ever seen and I am talking about ever seen. Because he is a young guy, he has taken the best of Rafa, the best of Federer and he has been able to adapt that. Without these great players, he wouldn’t have had that, and he admits that. He said without Rafa ‘I wouldn’t be where I am’, but he has just taken the best of everything and somehow at the age of 21 has put it all together. I have never seen anything like that.”
Alcaraz has a fabulous record while playing on the grass court. The former world number one has lifted back-to-back Wimbledon titles. His first Wimbledon title was in 2023 when he defeated Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. Twelve months later, Alcaraz once again lifted the title in London. This time again, he defeated Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
