Carlos Alcaraz played a sound match against Jenson Brooksby overwhelming the American with this heavy game.
It was a straight set finish for Alcaraz which was quite lucky as he was down 0-3 in the 3rd set with Brooksby having two breaks in hand. He was able to win six games in a row to keep the match in three sets and speaking after, the Spaniard underlined the importance of keeping the high intensity:
“I played really, really well. High level, high intensity, I knew that it was going to be a tough match. Brooksby is a really tough opponent, but I’m really happy with my performance today and I’m going to keep going.”
Despite falling behind in the 3rd set, Alcaraz stayed patient knowing that he would get a chance:
“I knew that I was going to have my chances in the third set, and I knew that he was going to [lose] his level a little bit and I had to make my opportunity in the third set. In the tough moments, in the break points, I played really, really well. I enjoyed it. I was there all the time and I made my opportunities in the third set.”
By advancing to the 4th round again, Alcaraz became the youngest player since Pete Sampras to reach the 4th round in back-to-back years at the
US Open.
