Carlos Alcaraz was beaten by Lorenzo Musetti the last time they played before their Rolad Garros (French Open rematch) but he exacted revenge this time around.
It was a highly anticipated match from Alcaraz's side because their match in Hamburg was a final and a pretty big one. The event in Germany is an ATP 500 event so that one hurt. Before the match, Alcaraz confirmed it was tough for him to deal with and he was looking forward to a chance to play Musetti:
“I remember the match in Hamburg. It was really, really tough. This is a match that I'm really looking for, I really want to play that match."
He certainly backed it up on the court coming out with a lot of passion and energy overpowering Musetti rather comfortably. The Italian never stood a chance and even when he played well it wasn't particularly pretty because Alcaraz was simply too good. After the match, Alaraz himself was very complimentary of his level:
"I played at such a great level; high quality. It was windy, and I played aggressively. I played a complete match from the first ball to the last, and I’m happy to come through it."
On being number one, he added that he doesn't think about it much:
"I try not to think about the pressure of being world No. 1 or the favourite. I put that outside my mind, and play and enjoy tennis. I try to smile all the time. This is the key for everything; to enjoy everything, and do the impossible. Making the people watching [enjoy it]. That’s all I think about during a match."
