Nikolay Davydenko doesn't share the optimism of many Federer's explaining that he sees Basel this year as the final event of his career.
In a recent interview with CLAY,
the long-retired Davydenko expressed his thoughts on when the Swiss
might call it a day himself. The Russian claimed that Federer's
impending return to action at Basel this year could be his final act on
the tennis court.
He said:
"I think he is playing in Basel to finish his career there. That's my opinion. Federer was my toughest opponent. Why? Because his forehand was extremely fast and his serve was very accurate, I could not gain any sort of control against him."
It's just an opinion so Federer fans can relax a bit but it would be quite a shocking development considering both Federer and his agent have repeated numerous times that he is not looking to retire any time soon. He probably won't play week in and week out but many hope to see him at least next year as well.
