Novak Djokovic will play one more match this season as he heads to Argentina to play in Juan Martin del Potro's farewell in a promise that the Serbian made to the great former US Open champion.
The former World No.3 will finally bid farewell to tennis after years of struggles with his knee including multiple surgeries. Despite his incredible success, he battled wrist and knee issues. His knee problems in particular saw him not compete from 2019 to 2021.
He did make a comeback in 2022, however that didn't last too long as he exited the sport. But amid the Djokovic farewell, he has started training hard again with the want to be in the best shape possible and give it all one last time.
The Argentine lauded the 24-time Grand Slam champion and his generosity for accepting his offer to take part in his farewell and ahead of joining forces with another famous face of that era in Andy Murray for the Australian Open, Djokovic will get to test his metal against him one more.
They faced off 20 times on tour with the Serbian leading the head to head 16-4. Will it be 17-4 or 16-5 to end the great Argentine's career.
"I started my diet, I'm losing weight, I'm training. I wanna arrive in that match in the best shape possible. It's a match to say goodbye," del Potro said.
"Djokovic was very generous in accepting my invitation. I want to give him all the love possible. If at least for one, two or three hours I can be in peace and happy on a tennis court, it will be beautiful," del Potro added.
