Andrey Rublev showed a lot of respect to Stan Wawrinka following their Madrid Open clash which the Russian won in two sets.
Rublev and Wawrinka played a very competitive match and while the Russian ultimately proved better, he did admit after the match that he was expecting a tough match, possibly even a loss. Speaking after the match Rublev said that he was amazed by the draw and getting Wawrinka in the first round:
“When I saw the draw, I was thinking amazing, five in the world and Wawrinka in the first round. When I was 40 in the world I had a much easier draw. In a couple of days maybe I’ll go back home very early…”
