Frances Tiafoe was a late addition to the USA
Davis Cup team and the American revealed what he was doing when he got the call.
Frances Tiafoe had a very good finish to the season as the American played some of the best tennis he played all season long in the final few weeks of the season. It coincided with the Tour moving to the Indoor circuit and Tiafoe found his form there. His season ended in a disappointing fashion as he lost a match he was close to winning against Tommy Paul in Stockholm.
Naturally, Tiafoe concluded his season was over and he planned his vacation and actually traveled to Mexico for it. It was there that he got the call-up for the USA Davis Cup team and despite being on vacation the American was no time in getting back to Europe in order to play for his country. Asked to explain what he was doing when he got the call he said:
"I got the call on Saturday. Man, I was with my girlfriend, we were in Cabo, having mimosas every morning and just chilling out. Thought my season was done. I was cool with it. I was getting ready to eat my feast for Thanksgiving, and plans changed real quick".
Tiafoe got the play for the USA as well taking down Mejia for the first point in their tie against Colombia. It was a very close and entertaining match with Tiafoe having to save a MP to win and he did.
