Peng Shuai is seemingly safe and sound in China but many in the tennis community are unsure about the validity of that information.
The WTA recently came out publicly explaining that they are not satisfied with the information coming out of China regarding Peng Shuai. Most of the reports coming out are coming from Chinese state-affiliated media which the WTA does not consider a reliable source of information. WTA chief Steve Simon has repeatedly tried to contact Peng directly but he was only able to communicate via e-mail.
The e-mails exchanged with Peng are not satisfactory according to Simon because he feels she did not write them.
Jan-Lennard Struff was asked about the whole situation at the Davis Cup Finals and the German expressed his disbelief about the whole thing:
"It's a crazy situation. We hope that she is doing well and that she is safe. Even as a player at the ATP tour, I wouldn't have a problem if we stopped playing in China. I don't necessarily need to go there."
Struff echoed similar sentiments that were spoken by Novak Djokovic earlier in the week when the Serbian admitted he would back the WTA and ATP pulling out of China altogether due to the situation. It was a very harsh stance by Djokovic who is arguably the most popular player in China nowadays.
