Tennis is a very unique sport according to John McEnroe as it can completely replace umpires and linesmen and not lose accuracy which is great for the game.
John McEnroe was a very unique player in its own right. While he's not the only one who is known for outbursts on the court the American is probably the best-known when it comes to that specific thing. Most people now associate those things with him more than his tennis which is a shame as his tennis was really good.
Still, McEnroe embraced it, it's part of who he is and speaking about his career recently the American touched upon the availability of technology in the new era.

More boring

Like many, McEnroe is pro tech in tennis because it allows a fair match where the right calls will be called. That's not necessarily the case with human umpires and he knows a thing or two about bad calls. He admitted that he would have won more events if the tech was more available but he would have also been more boring:
“Had I had it from the very beginning, I would have been more boring, but I would have won more.”

Adoption of tech

The American is in favour of adopting new hawk-eye technology permanently because it would allow the players to stop arguing with calls and simply focus on tennis. He thinks it's a good thing that tennis is unique in sucha a away:
“I think that tennis is one of the few sports where you don’t need umpires or linesmen. If you have this equipment, and it’s accurate, isn’t it nice to know that the correct call’s being made?”
