Matteo Berrettini is currently preparing to fly to Australia for the Australian Open and ahead of that, he talked with Gazetta Dello Sport about several topics.
The Italian player is back to full health after picking up an abdominal injury at the ATP Finals in Turin. Berrettini opted to train in Florida during the winter which aided his recovery and helped him build confidence in himself before the season starts back up in Australia. He confirmed as much in an interview with Gazetta Dello Sport where he also talked about Federer.
They played twice against each other with the final match coming in 2019 at the ATP Finals. Both matches were won by Federer with Berrettini receiving a walkover at this year Roland Garros. Remembering that Berrettini admitted he was disappointed about not playing Federer. He expressed his hope that they will play once more calling their matches emotional.
"Facing him is emotional. So I would like to face Federer the most out of the big three."
Due to the cirucmstances he understands that facing Djokovic is more likely:
"I am more likely to play Djokovic."
Whether Berrettini gets his wish of facing Federer remains to be seen but it would be a spectacular match especially at an iconic venue like Wimbledon.
