Former seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander thinks a well-prepared
Novak Djokovic will definitely have a strong chance of defending his French Open title.
Djokovic, ranked at No. 1 in the world, has only played one tournament so far this season.
However, he also shouldn't have problems playing in Europe as he is
expected to be allowed to play the Monte Carlo Masters and French Open.
France recently lifted its vaccine mandate but Djokovic's
participation at the Masters events in Madrid and Rome remains a mystery.
Speaking to Eurosport, Wilander admitted that he feels Djokovic will have a strong chance of defending his French Open title if he gets enough matches in:
"Of course, he would have liked to play more matches, but
if he plays three more tournaments and maybe ten to 15 matches, then
he's probably the favourite in Paris. But
he'll need a bit of self-confidence in the run-up to the French Open."
It remains to be seen how Djokovic does on the red clay but his performance on the surface last year has been nothing short of amazing.
