Daniil Medvedev could be world number one next on Monday, February 28th and
Novak Djokovic would be happy to congratulate him if he does become the best-ranked tennis player in the world.
There are several ways by which Medvedev can take the world number one from Djokovic and you can read about all of them below. The most certain way for Medvedev would be to win the Acapulco tennis event as the win would ensure he would become the best-ranked tennis player in the world. It's a tough mountain to climb for Medvedev considering the strong field at the event that includes Nadal, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Berrettini and more.
Djokovic is focused on his own return in Dubai with the Serbian saying:
“The only scenario that I have in my head is to win every match that I play here."
He is very happy to be in Dubai and can't wait to step onto the court:
“It’s great to be here. I've had some wonderful results in this
tournament. It's been a while since I played for the first time in [the]
Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. [I have] many wonderful memories on and off the court.”
If Medvedev does secure the number one ranking, Djokovic will be happy to congraulate him:
“It's in his hands. He deserves to be No. 1,“Eventually it's going to happen. If it happens this week, I'll be the first one to congratulate him.”
