"I'm coming in with more confidence" - Taylor Fritz on US Open

Taylor Fritz is feeling ready to go for the 2022 US Open admitting that he feels a lot more confident this year than last year.

There is a very good reason for that. Fritz has had a tremendous season so far playing on a top 10 level and winning his maiden ATP 1000 trophy in Indian Wells. He was the first man to beat Rafael Nadal this year and he's continued to play strong tennis throughout the year:

“I think this year I'm coming into the tournament with more confidence, more belief in what I can do here than any other year. Feeling good. I'm just super excited to get started.”

Key among those events that gave him confidence was Wimbledon where he reached the quarterfinal by playing some strong tennis. He lost in heartbreaking fashion but proved to himself that he has what it takes to go all the way:

“It was really good for me because I kind of just went through the draw, played a lot of solid matches, got all the way to the quarterfinals. Hadn't dropped a set [before facing Nadal]. That's honestly what it takes to go deep at the Grand Slams, is to not really set yourself back by playing these crazy long matches in the beginning rounds, getting your body beat up.”
