Casper Ruud finally faced his idol and it did not go that well for him as he lost in straight sets in his maiden grand slam final.
Nadal dominated this match even without playing superb tennis because Ruud was really not as good as he can be. The fact that Nadal won 11 games in a row including a final set bagel sort of demonstrated that halfway true the match Ruud kind of gave up. He gave Nadal too much and the Spaniard was clinical as ever.
Following the match Ruud was asked whether facing Nadal on Chatrier is the toughest challenge in sports:
"I think so. I said before the match that I guess it is. Now I know it is. It's really challenging and really tough. His numbers speak for themselves. Never lost a final here. I'm just one of his victims that he destroyed on this court here."
It's a good week for Ruud who will rise to a new career-high of #6 in the world. Not good enough for his maiden grand slam trophy.
