Gael Monfils is far from done judging by his tennis level in Melbourne as the veteran is through to the quarterfinal where he will face Matteo Berrettini.
Getting to the quarterfinals was no easy task as Monfils faced a very inspired Miomir Kecmanovic who used his draw to go deep after initially drawing Djokovic in the first round. Monfils and Kecmanovic played a very entertaining match where both players had chances but it was Monfils who used his.
Talking about the match, the popularly called La Monf said:
"It was really tough. He passed me on both sides. I tried to be very aggressive. I tried not to let him dictate the points and that went well. It was just a battle."
Monfils impressed many with his level in Melbourne and generally has played really well in 2022. He won a trophy in Adelaide possibly flashing what was to come. In Melbourne, he will face Berrettini for the semifinal and it should be a fun matchup. He vowed to do better than the last time he was in a quarterfinal saying:
"I want to do better and I will try to play this quarter-final not like the last time... I'm not quite finished yet."
