Ashleigh Barty is through to the quarterfinals of the
Australian Open but she had to work very hard to get there.
Amanda Anisimova proved to be the strongest opposition she has faced yet and Barty was well aware of that. Wasting no time, she quickly praised her opponent saying:
"She's got an exceptional game that puts you under the pump right from the get-go. It was nice to be able to hold firm tonight and bring the points
back into my patterns more regularly and big ones when it mattered most."
Barty faced quite a few issues on her serve which is strange considering that she was so dominant on her own serve in 2022. Her streak of 63 consecutive service games won was snapped by Anisimova who applied constant pressure on Barty with her baseline game. Ultimately it did not work as he did not have enough consistency but at times it was very tricky.
Barty believes she will become a champion one day as she has all the tools for it:
"She’s an incredible athlete and competitor. One of her best
attributes is that she's able to turn up point after point after point. It's just nice to see her back playing her best tennis. She's a
champion and she’s going to be in deep stages at a lot of majors."
