Leaving Montreal. Results don’t always go your way. Some positives to take and I start again in Cincinnati next week. Cheers @jackdraper0 . That was good fun
Italy’s young tennis star Jannik Sinner has revealed that his hip is ‘fine’ ahead of the Cincinnati Open. The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis along with the likes of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Sinner recently played in the Canadian Open where he had a relatively disappointing outing as he lost in the quarterfinal to Russia’s Andrey Rublev with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. During the contest, the current world number one looked uncomfortable and it seemed that there was a recurrence of his hip injury.
However, Sinner was recently quoted in a report where he stated that his hip is ‘fine’ ahead of the mega-event. The San Candido-born star further stated that he is ‘not scared’ to take part in the competition, so soon ahead of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year which will begin at the end of August.
"I feel pretty good,” he said. “Obviously I had almost a week without training before Montreal and then I played for two or three days in a row, more than usual. That could have had a potential impact on the hip. But I'm not worried or scared. The hip is fine, I can't wait to get back on the court here in Cincinnati. I think my season is very, very positive and I want to continue to build on that. If you want to keep this position, I have to continue to improve. And if you want to improve, you have to improve more than the others.”
Sinner is having a fabulous season and has produced some impressive performances. His best outing came at the start of the year, when he lifted his first and, until now, only Grand Slam title in Melbourne. He defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3.
