World number one Jannik Sinner has revealed details of his matchday preparations. The 23-year-old is already regarded as the best player currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.

Sinner is currently taking part in the Australian Open, where he is defending his title. He lifted the major title last year in Melbourne after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. The reigning top player in men’s tennis has recently been quoted in a report where he opened up about his matchday preparations. Sinner revealed that he usually sleeps around 10 hours before playing the match.

"Usually I'm quite relaxed until 20 minutes before the match, so I try to sleep in as long as possible, which I have no doubts I can do that every day,” he said. "I slept around 10 hours this night, which is good. Everyone tells me that, so hopefully I can keep going. And then again I had half an hour before the match, again sleeping, but hopefully I wake up when it counts. At 7 I try to be awake, but no, if not, we obviously try to feel the ball a little bit for half an hour, 40 minutes. I'm trying to have good food, and obviously now it's quite long because we have to do press, we have to do ice bath, which, you know, is all part of the job, and hopefully I recover for tomorrow's practice.”

Sinner has booked his spot in the fourth round after beating America’s Marcos Giron in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. He is now set to face Denmark’s Holger Rune in the round of 16 who cemented his spot after beating Miomir Kecmanovic in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. It will be the fifth meeting between the two players. In the previous four meetings, both players emerged victorious on two occasions. Their most recent meeting was in the quarterfinal of the Monte-Carlo Masters in April 2024 where Sinner came out on top with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Interestingly, it will be the first-ever meeting between the two players at a Grand Slam.
