Carlos Alcaraz continued his superstar ascension in Barcelona with a stunning win over Stefanos Tsitsipas that saw him come back into the match after throwing away a 4-1 lead in the 2nd set.
Alcaraz played with his food a little bit in the match against Tsitsipas with the Spanish player throwing away a 4-1 lead in the 2nd set to lose it 5-7. He came back in superb fashion racing to a 6-2 finish in the final set to secure the 6-4 5-7 6-2 win in Barcelona. The win ensured that he will debut inside the top 10 on Monday but he is aiming for a little bonus:
"I think I beat the favourite- I'm playing an incredible level. And I think that I'm ready to get the title."
Asked specifially about the match, he said:
"Probably my biggest win on clay court. It was unbelievable. Unbelievable game that I played, an unbelievable atmosphere that I lived today on court. The atmosphere here, the crowd, the level that I played, the level of the match. It was incredible."
Alcaraz is seeking a third trophy this season following his maiden ATP Masters 1000 triumph in Miami and the ATP 500 event in Rio de Janeiro. He will face Australian Alex de Minaur in Saturday's semi-finals.
