"In the next three months we will see": Patrick Mouratoglou urges players to take advantage of Jannik Sinner's three-month ban

Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou believes that a ban on Italy’s Jannik Sinner would give other players the opportunity to win the contest. The 23-year-old, who is regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, is currently serving a three-month ban after failing two doping tests in March last year.

He is set to return to the court ahead of the Rome Masters in May which will give him the opportunity to prepare for the French Open as well. Famous tennis coach Mouratoglou has been recently quoted in a report by The Tennis Gazette where he talked about the opportunity for other players because of Sinner’s ban. He was of the opinion that these three months presents an opportunity for other players to lift big titles.

“The fact that [Jannik] Sinner is not playing for a few months gives a lot of opportunities to players not only to win big tournaments but also to gain confidence by winning a lot of matches,” said Mouratoglou. “Is it also a pressure at the same time? Yes of course. I always take the example of Marion Bartoli, who won Wimbledon when Serena [Williams], [Maria] Sharapova, and a lot of other top players lost early. Many could have [won], one did. When the top players are getting beaten in the first rounds or quite early in a big tournament, it’s a huge opportunity for other players who usually don’t have this opportunity to win those big titles. A lot of them are unable to take the opportunity because of the pressure it brings, but some others can. In the next three months we will see who is able to take advantage, who is mentally strong enough to think, I have an opportunity, I can not mess it up. But how can I use this opportunity and fight the pressure that comes with it in order to win.”
