“Incredibly hungry to learn and improve”: Magnus Norman identifies what impresses him most about Jannik Sinner
ATP
Magnus Norman has shared his first thoughts about joining Jannik Sinner's coaching team, identifying the Italian's humility and continued hunger for improvement as the qualities that excite him most about their upcoming collaboration. The former world No. 2 will join the five-time Grand Slam champion's setup for the 2027 season, replacing Darren Cahill after the Australian decided to bring his coaching career to an end.
The Swedish coach spoke publicly for the first time since Sinner officially confirmed the appointment on Friday. Norman will work alongside Simone Vagnozzi, who has been a central figure in the Italian's development since 2022, as the world No. 2 prepares for a new chapter following one of the most successful coaching partnerships in recent tennis history.
Despite the considerable expectations that come with taking over from Cahill, Norman made it clear that he recognises the foundations already established within Sinner's team. He praised the Australian and the entire coaching staff for their work, describing the opportunity to continue building on their achievements as a privilege.
Norman also has considerable experience at the highest level, having coached Stan Wawrinka through the most successful period of his career, including all three of the Swiss player's Grand Slam triumphs. His next challenge will be helping Sinner maintain his position among the leading figures in men's tennis while establishing a strong working relationship with Vagnozzi.
Magnus Norman identifies what excites him most about working with Jannik Sinner
In comments shared by Good to Great Tennis Academy, which Norman co-founded, the Swede expressed his respect for the work Cahill and the existing team have done while explaining why he is particularly enthusiastic about coaching Sinner.
"First of all, I have immense respect for the work Darren Cahill and the entire team have done with Jannik over the years. They have done an incredible job, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to build on what they have achieved.
"Jannik is obviously already one of the best players in the world, but what excites me most is his personality and his mindset.

"He is still young, very humble, and incredibly hungry to learn and improve, despite everything he has already accomplished. For me, that is what makes working with him so exciting. I'm really looking forward to being part of his team and contributing in any way I can to his continued development."
The winter preparation period will therefore be particularly important, not only for Norman to understand Sinner's game and establish his own role within the team, but also for developing the right dynamic with Vagnozzi.
Norman faces first challenge alongside Simone Vagnozzi
The coaching change comes after five highly successful years for Sinner and Cahill, who worked alongside Vagnozzi to help the Italian win five Grand Slam titles and reach world No. 1. Cahill had previously considered stepping away after the 2025 season but remained for another year before confirming his departure at the end of 2026.
The Italian coach will remain in place after working alongside Cahill for several years, making the new partnership a continuation of the existing structure rather than a complete coaching overhaul.

Norman, who reached No. 2 in the ATP rankings during his playing career, brings an impressive coaching résumé. His partnership with Wawrinka between 2013 and 2017 coincided with the Swiss winning the Australian Open, Roland Garros and US Open. He also helped compatriot Robin Soderling reach two French Open finals.
Based in Monte-Carlo, like Sinner, Norman is expected to begin working with the Italian on the practice courts as their collaboration gets underway. Their first public appearance together could come at the Six Kings Slam in December, ahead of the Australian swing and the start of the 2027 season.

- One step by another step -- WTA continues to 'lose the plot'. Too many hi-tech microphones being installed at most venues!!! Remove them (especially those along the hallways, sidewalks, and pathways throughout the venues. Not to mention (most of all) remove the mic's from the Players/Coaches Box.

mandoist06-11-2026 - Don't you just love this young lady!? We fans often expect athletes to be supermen and superwomen, often forgetting that they WILL GET TIRED! I love Alex's perspective. Tiredness for an athlete should never be viewed as a negative, especially if you are healthy, taking care of your body and mental health and putting in the work. What a mature perspective. Good for you, Alex!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Jess is absolutely correct! But the disrespect is a trait I have noticed in most of the Russian players. Mirra is good but very immature and lacks humility. Conceivable needs to get a handle on that!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
mandoist05-11-2026 - Okay... someone with a camera was EAVESDROPPING on a private conversation. Shouldn't that be the point of discussion here? Regardless of the sensationalist crap by media, Pegula (and anyone) has a right to an opinion. There used to be an expectation that private conversations were respected, regardless of 'stardom' and whatever other defensive excuses media tries to shove in our faces. Boo-hoo if feelings are hurt. BTW: Having been employed at various tourney venues, etc., I can't tell you how nasty and offensive players can be when discussing their opponents and colleagues... in "private". Well, I could, but won't. I also challenge anyone to deny what Jessica said is false.
