Jannik Sinner has reportedly chosen Magnus Norman as his new coach for the 2027 season, with the Swedish former world No. 2 set to replace Darren Cahill in the Italian's coaching team. According to British newspaper The Times, Norman will join Sinner's staff in December, bringing extensive experience at the highest level of professional tennis.
The appointment would mark a significant change for the five-time Grand Slam champion, who has worked with Cahill since 2022. The Australian has played a major role in Sinner's rise to the top of men's tennis, helping him establish himself as one of the sport's dominant players. Norman is now set to take on the challenge of helping the Italian maintain that position alongside existing coach Simone Vagnozzi.
Norman arrives with an impressive coaching record, having guided Stan Wawrinka to all three of his Grand Slam titles. Their partnership produced triumphs at the Australian Open in 2014, Roland Garros in 2015 and the US Open in 2016, establishing the Swede as one of the most successful coaches of his generation.
He also worked with compatriot Robin Söderling during the period when the former world No. 4 reached two French Open finals.
The reported appointment comes as Sinner prepares for a transition in his coaching staff and continues recovering from a knee injury that has kept him out of competition since Wimbledon. The Italian won his fifth Grand Slam title at the All England Club before his season was disrupted. With Norman's arrival expected in December, the new partnership will begin as Sinner prepares for the challenges of the 2027 campaign.

Sinner turns to the coach behind Wawrinka's Grand Slam success

According to The Times, Norman has emerged as Sinner's choice after being considered for the role in previous years. The Swedish coach was reportedly among the candidates when the Italian was reshaping his team in 2022, before Cahill ultimately joined Vagnozzi in guiding his development.
Norman's work with Wawrinka is the strongest argument in his favour. The Swiss won three major titles under his guidance, defeating Rafael Nadal in the 2014 Australian Open final, Novak Djokovic in the 2015 Roland Garros final and Djokovic again in the 2016 US Open final. Wawrinka also reached a career-high ranking of world No. 3 during his partnership with Norman.
The Swede had previously worked with Söderling, who reached consecutive Roland Garros finals in 2009 and 2010. His experience with different players and his record of helping Wawrinka compete against the dominant figures of his era make him a notable addition to Sinner's staff.
Norman is also expected to work alongside Vagnozzi rather than replace him. The Italian coach has been central to Sinner's development, and the reported arrangement would preserve continuity within the team while introducing a new voice with extensive experience in Grand Slam tennis.

Cahill's departure marks the end of a successful partnership

Cahill's expected departure will close a highly successful chapter in Sinner's career. Since joining the team in 2022, the Australian has helped the Italian progress from an established top player to a multiple Grand Slam champion capable of competing consistently for the biggest titles.
The coaching change had been anticipated for some time, with Cahill having previously indicated that he intended to step away from the tour. His departure was delayed, allowing him to remain with Sinner longer than initially planned, but the transition now appears to be settled.
Sinner's immediate priority remains his recovery. His absence since Wimbledon has interrupted a season in which he had won 44 of his 47 matches. The postponed Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia, scheduled for December 27–30, could provide an opportunity for his return to the court before the new season.
Sinner's next coaching chapter appears to be taking shape. Norman's record with Wawrinka provides a compelling foundation, but the partnership's success will ultimately depend on how effectively the Swede and Vagnozzi work together to guide the Italian through the next stage of his career.
