Indian Wells tournament director Tommy Haas brands potential Djokovic omission due to vaccine rules a 'disgrace'

Indian Wells Tournament director and former player Tommy Haas is in Australia and he spoke to the local media about Djokovic and whether he'll be able to play at the event in March.

As things stand now, Djokovic won't be able to enter the US and play in Indian Wells due to his unvaccinated status. Legislation remains in place and for the time being, it doesn't seem likely that it will be changed. Covid is not as deadly as it once was but it's still very prevalent in many counties including the US which makes any sudden changes unlikely.

Speaking about that, Haas expressed disappointment:

“They’re supposed to lift those (US) mandates by mid-April. It would be nice to see if we could maybe lift those a little earlier and have him come to play Indian Wells and Miami. I think he wants to play, so we should give him the chance. Hopefully, we can have him there."

Haas concluded with:

“I mean, it would be a disgrace in my eyes if he wasn’t coming to these events or not allowed to come.”
