Three of the final 4 players at the Atlanta Open will be Americans and at least one in the final will be an American as Fritz and Isner will play each other in the semifinals. Both won their quarterfinal matches in order to move to the semifinals joining Nakashima and Ruusuvori who did it earlier.
Taylor Frit faced off against
Reilly Opelka and it was a great match that went not only three sets but three tiebreaks. Two great servers did not allow many break point chances and in the end, it was Frit who emerged victorious after two hours and 55 minutes.
His compatriot John Isner also needed three against O' Connell and it to was a very close match. Isner won the first in a tiebreak with the Australian coming back to win the 2nd also in a tiebreak. In the end, Isner was able to get it done without a tiebreak 6-4 in the final set.
They join Emil Ruusuvouri and Brandon Nakashima who won matches earlier in the day to advance to the semifinals. Ruusuvori continued playing great tennis in Atlanta by defeating
Cameron Norrie in straight sets. Nakashima did the same against
Jordan Thompson.
