Although Novak Djokovic would like to lead his native Serbia to another Davis Cup victory. the World No.1 has spoken out against the event being held at the same location in consecutive years.
The 2023 Davis Cup Finals are currently being held in Malaga, Spain, with Serbia set to face 2014 champions Great Britain. However, the 24-time Grand Slam champion is not pleased at the fact that the final rounds are being held in the same country for four years running, as the Finals have been hosted twice in Madrid and twice in Malaga since 2019.
"(Allowing) one nation to host every year the last 8 for now three, four years in a row ... Madrid, Malaga, is too much, in my opinion," said Djokovic to reporters ahead of the event. "It has to travel. This is a competition that is played globally.
"I feel like the Davis Cup Finals, at least if you're going to keep it (with a) final four, final eight, should travel every year. It shouldn't stay in one place more than a year."
With Great Britain missing Andy Murray and Dan Evans due to injury, Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper are likely to be selected to represent the Brits in singles action against Serbia.
