Novak Djokovic is truly a historic player and his feat yesterday proves just that. Not only did he win his 5th title in Rome he also won his 36th Masters title overall which is the most in history. After the match he spoke about the week in Rome by calling it 'great':
"It was a great week. A very challenging week. I don’t think I played my best tennis throughout the entire week, but I think I found my best tennis when I needed it the most in the decisive moments today."
He also spoke about his gratitude to have an event before the grand slam in Paris next week:
"Turning to Paris, I couldn’t ask for a better tournament here in Rome. Another big title and [I am] super pleased with it."
When asked about his opponent Diego Schwartzman who put up a valiant effort, Djokovic said:
"[Diego] played well in heavy conditions, especially at the beginning… He played many long matches. He had fantastic wins against Nadal and Shapovalov last night, so credit to him for a phenomenal tournament and I wish him all the best in the rest of the season."
All in all it was a good week for Djokovic who returned to winning ways after the fiasco whe experienced in New York. It was also a good preparation for the big event next week which he also aims to win. The competition will be fierce as there will be a stronger field than in New York.
