Daniil Medvedev battled past Stan Wawrinka at the Diriyah Tennis Cup to book another final at the event having won it the last time he played in 2019.
Medvedev opened this year with some amazing tennis first smashing Zverev thoroughly and then outplaying a very inspired Wawrinka. He didn't play his best tennis but did well enough to win 6-4 6-4. He will have a chance to play for the trophy once more when he takes on Taylor Fritz in the final later today.
On this match, Medvedev said:
“It was so tough to play him, but for him as well because I played well today. I was putting a lot of balls in the court to try and make his life difficult too, but sometimes he plays so strongly that there was no chance to touch the ball. It was a high-level match and I was very happy to win it."
It went better than the last time Medvedev played Wawrinka as the Swiss player won that match. On the final, he added:
“I will try my best (in the final), there were a lot of people here today and it was a great atmosphere. I’m sure there will be even more people around tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it, so I’ll relax now and then get ready.”
