Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic discussed their breakup in the new season of the Netflix series "Break Point."
The former tennis couple started a relationship in 2019, which was portrayed in the first part of the first season of "Break Point." It showcased how they balanced their careers and travels with their life as a couple.
With the release of the second part of the first season, which covers the WTA and ATP tour in 2022, Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic spoke about their breakup after four years.
“This year has not been great. I wasn't my best self. You could see it from my on-court behavior. I've also split up with Matteo. Every relationship, it has good times and bad times. I could just feel that things were not right," Tomljanovic said.
"You look for something that will last a lifetime and it wasn't meant to be. Yeah, it's just life that still happens even though you're a professional athlete," the Aussie added.
Berretini and Tomljanovic reportedly separated because they simply weren't happy together:
"We broke up because in the end, in life, we have to be happy, and if that is not happening, I think it's not worth it," the Italian said.
The Italian has had a forgettable 2023 due to injuries that have prevented him from having continuity on the tour. The former Wimbledon finalist started the year ranked No. 16, but he has now dropped to No. 35 in the live rankings.
This week, he withdrew from the Queen's Club Championship before his match against Emil Ruusuvuori, and we will have to wait and see his physical condition for Wimbledon.
