The Hopman Cup ended in 2019 after being held for 30 years but ITF President Haggerty confirmed it will return in 2022.
The event is a mixed doubles event that features men and women playing together. The event was very popular among top players from the ATP and WTA and always drew a lot of interest from fans. It was conveniently scheduled ahead of the Australian Open in Perth, Australia with many of the worlds best already in the country.
The event was last held in 2019 but ITF President David Haggerty confirmed the ITF is looking to bring the event back. The decision came after a very positive reaction to the mixed doubles event at the Olympic Games. Haggerty said:
"We want to bring the Hopman Cup back because we love to have men and women playing together in an event. Most likely it would be in Europe. Within the next two weeks we will announce a decision.”
The decision to change location to Europe would be a major deviation from the history of the event as it was never held outside of Perth. Haggerty would not elaborate further but confirmed that there is a strong interest in putting the event back into the schedule:
“It’s something that is coming back in the schedule. We are working with a number of different companies and we are close to making an announcement about that.”
