Andy Murray split with his longtime coach Jamie Delgado recently and speaking to the media he revealed practice is going well with new coach Jan De Witt.
Heading into the new season Murray elected to make some changes to his coaching staff. He let go of longtime coach Jamie Delgado and brought in Jan De Witt who worked with many professional tennis players before with varying degrees of success. He was able able to elevate all his former clients but none of them were able to win the big one.
For Murray, it was time for a change as he was determined to make the 2022 season count, especially after finding some decent form late in the year. His goal of playing competitive tennis every match looks realistic and perhaps he can also win a few more trophies. Asked about practice Murray said:
“It’s been good. I obviously didn’t play in the Davis
Cup, so I’ve had an extra couple of weeks and got started a bit earlier
than a lot of the players that played in that. I’m off to Abu Dhabi on Sunday for a week to play in the event
there, but also to go a few days earlier and get some outdoor training."
Most of his practices have come indoors as Europe sails through the winter season but for Murray, it's still been a good process that has kept him fresh:
"I’ve obviously just been practising indoors here, but it’s been good so far, I’ve got some good work done and I feel relatively fresh.”
His first event will come in a few days when he plays at the Mubadala Tennis championships in Abu Dhabi. After that, it's straight to Australia for the Summer Tour.
