Noted tennis journalist David Avakian can't wait to see
Carlos Alcaraz take on
Novak Djokovic when they are at their best because it's yet to happen.
Despite the 2023 season being over 4 months old, there has yet to be an event featuring both Alcaraz and Djokovic. It didn't happen at the Australian Open and it didn't happen at any of the recent events. Avakian wants to see Alcaraz against Djokovic at their best because it's yet to happen.
Avakian said:
"Yes, for sure. It's the thing I've been longing for — the Novak-Alcaraz clash. At a Grand Slam, sure, that'll be great but anywhere at this point because it's just not happening. I mean it happened here [Madrid] last year of course, but even then, it was kind of Novak was just coming back. It wasn't really like a full-strength Novak against a full-strength Alcaraz. So, please, as soon as possible."
Their only clash last year happened in Madrid when Djokovic was coming back from injury and he wasn't at his best. It's certainly a matchup many would want to see and perhaps we see it at the Rome Open this week.
