Alycia Parks wasn't able to bring her Madrid Open form to the Rome Open as she was beaten by comeback player Anett Kontaveit 6-1 6-1 in the first round.
Parks played really well in Madrid and looked decent in the first game of the match actually breaking her opponent to take a 1-0 lead. That was the only game she would win in the opening set as Kontaveit quickly established control of the match to outplay Parks from the baseline. There was very little the American could do in rallies as Kontaveit dominated those with ease.
She simply demonstrated much more stability in her play thanks to being the more talented player right now. The second set didn't go that differently because Parks had the same problems. There wasn't the altitude of Madrid to help her serve and she hit her serve only 42 % of the time.
On top of that, she had 11 double faults to only 2 aces and that's just a huge problem. Her serve is her main weapon and if it's not working she becomes very vulnerable. Kontaveit exposed that in the second set as well with a 6-1 finish.
