Jannik Sinner has now defeated
Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals, Davis Cup Finals, Grand Slam, Masters 1000 and now
Six Kings Slam over the last year. He sealed a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 win in Riyadh.
Sinner spoke afterwards and admitted nerves got to him during the tie at times as he looked for an easy win and was pushed to the limit. He will now face off against either Carlos Alcaraz or Rafael Nadal in the final on Saturday in a top tie either way. They face off shortly.
“We played a final in Shanghai not many days ago. We both were slightly tired and making a couple mistakes. We all love to play here. Thanks everyone for coming. That’s the reason why we’re here," said Sinner.
He missed a few overhead smashes and was broken and admitted he did get a bit shaky. “Well maybe from the outside. From inside I was a little bit. It’s normal. This game can change so quickly. I had a couple overheads but he made some pretty good shots there. Just tried to reset as fast as possible. I’m happy with how I handled the match. Let’s see what’s coming Saturday. Hopefully it’s gonna be a good one. That’s the reason we’re all here.”
“All of us try to raise our level and try to play every point in the best way. We take it quite serious. Just trying to improve our game. Also for the next meetings. We know each other quite well.”
“Usually I’m quite calm. Today also I got nervous. Sometimes I can’t handle myself when I’m a bit tired. It’s good I have another chance Saturday. I might not be as fresh as possible but I’ll try my best. We just try to make it a good show for all of you.”
