The nomination for the 2023 ATP Awards has been announced
which features some of the best performers of the year.
The awards will be announced in the second week of December
which will include different categories. Italy’s
Jannik Sinner has been
nominated in four different player-related categories after his impressive
performances in the calendar year.
His coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi have also been
nominated for the Coaches of the Year award. Sinner, along with America’s Ben
Shelton are nominated in the Most Improved Player of the Year category.
The Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award category nominations
included the world number two Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Grigor Dimitrov, Hubert
Hurkacz and Sinner. The current world number four had an amazing end to the
year where he produced some remarkable performances.
He first managed to qualify for the final of the last major
competition in men’s tennis in the calendar year — the ATP Finals — in his
home country but ended up losing to Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak
Djokovic in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
He later played a key
role in helping Italy in winning the Davis Cup title for the first time in 48
years as they defeated Australia with a score of 2-0 in the final.
