Jannik Sinner defeated Lloyd Harris in the Antwerp Open semifinal which sends the Italian into the final of the event giving him much-needed points in the pursuit of a place in Turin.
The Battle for the ATP Finals is ongoing and Jannik Sinner made a huge step towards qualification. By being outside looking in, Sinner is desperate for points and the chance to leave Belgium with the full 250 ATP points is very important for him. The opponent, Lloyd Harris, was a very tricky one especially in those indoor conditions where his serve can be a problem.
For Sinner, there was no problem, as the Italian fairly routinely defeated the South African player 6-2 6-2. The start of the match signaled pretty clearly how the match would unfold. Harris lost his serve in the first game and did the same thing when he served the next time so rather quickly he was down 0-4. Sinner was superb from the baseline attacking any ball he can.
The Italian correctly understood that with Harris you need to be aggressive and not allow him to set up the point. Sinner also returned fairly well especially early and that proved key. Most of the damage he did in the opening set was on the 2nd serve and it was enough for a 6-2 finish. The 2nd set was played better by Harris but once again Sinner was too good.
The Italian took an early lead that became a double lead not long after that. Harris had 3 break points overall but he did not convert either as he was simply outmatched during rallies. What little damage he did was thanks to his serve which again was not good enough to bail him out today. Sinner won the 2nd set with 6-2 to move on to the final.
