Lorenzo Sonego had the opportunity to play a few times against Novak Djokovic and the Italian has been quite successful considering the fact he's playing one of the best.
The Italian had a magnificent thumping of Djokovic last year at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna 6-2 6-1 and since then they played a very close match in Rome as well. Sonego counts himself as a Djokovic fans and he spoke about the Serbian highly including the match in Vienna. I another recent video he had to say the following about the world number one:
“Djokovic has had incredible results, is practically the strongest in history in terms of trophies won. He has the grandest objectives, like winning the calendar-year Grand Slam which he almost did this year.”
The major disappointment for Djokovic came at the US Open where he failed to complete the historic calendar grand slam getting beaten by Medvedev in the final. Another disappointment came at the Olympic where Djokovic once again failed to win the gold for Serbian which has been one of his biggest career dreams. For Sonego it just proves that even the best can feel the pressure:
“Nole has shown that we are all human beings and that the pressure is very difficult to manage. If no one has managed to do it in the last 50 years there is a reason. And anyway, winning three Grand Slams and making the final in the last one is something that only phenomenal people can achieve. Djokovic has won everything, he only thinks of being calm and having fun.”
