Jannik Sinner is poised to hire former Novak Djokovic trainer, Marco Panichi as per Gazzetta dello Sport with reports from Italy saying an appointment is imminent after his recent doping ordeal.
Sinner will also add a new physio as new staff replace Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi. He dispensed of both after his recent doping ordeal became public knowledge.
The World No.1 and recent US Open champion was massaged by his physio who had sprayed a clostebol spray on his finger and massaged Sinner without gloves. He tested positive twice for a billionth of a gram. Albeit these tests only became public knowledge later in the year.
He successfully appealed any suspensions given and the verdict given was one of no fault or negligence. Albeit Sinner has wrangled with constant questioning surrounding it since and has also been subject to the court of public opinion.
The Italian as a result needed to hire somebody next who can be trusted and has turned to a long-time ally of the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
"Meanwhile, in the next few days, the names of the new staff members should be made official, replacing Umberto Ferrara (athletic trainer) and Giacomo Naldi (physiotherapist), who ended their collaboration with the player after the doping affair exploded. The choice of trainer was very important, especially for the work to be done in the December off-season, the only time of the year dedicated solely to training," quoted a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
"The improvements made by Sinner under Ferrara's athletic guidance are evident and it will be essential to continue the work at the same high levels. And indeed, the choice has fallen on Marco Panichi, who has worked extensively with Novak Djokovic, and has a wealth of experience. As far as the physiotherapist is concerned, a couple of names are being mentioned, including that of Claudio Zimaglia, but it is not certain that this will be done soon. In the group there is always osteopath Andrea Cipolla, who is highly regarded for his human qualities as well as his professional ones."
