Although American Taylor Fritz came close to winning a Grand Slam trophy at the 2024 US Open, tennis analyst Jason Goodall is of the opinion that compatriot Frances Tiafoe has what it takes to win a Major trophy before Fritz.

Fritz experienced his best season on tour during the 2024 season, reaching his maiden Grand Slam final at the 2024 US Open. Although the California native fell to World No.1 Jannik Sinner, Fritz ended the year strongly, finishing at his career-high ranking of World No.4.

Tiafoe could beat Fritz to a Major title

On a recent episode of The Tennis Channel Live Podcast, Goodall had high praise for Fritz's exploits during the 2024 season. After acknowledging that Fritz was the favorite among male American tennis players to win a Grand Slam title soon, Goodall pinpointed Tiafoe as his personal choice to most likely win a Slam.

“[Taylor] Fritz is one of those players that’s really solid at the highest level, a phenomenal competitor so off the back of making his first Major final, you’d think 2025 is going to go all up as far as he’s concerned,” said Goodall. “As far as Americans are concerned you’d have to say Fritz, although Frances Tiafoe perhaps has higher notes and maybe has a better chance of springing a surprise at the US Open.”

American ATP star Christopher Eubanks, who co-hosts the podcast session, sided with Fritz, claiming the 27-year old had the game necessary to bring home a Slam.

"Fritz is more in form that a lot of the guys this year, had a career year in every single Major, advanced to the final of the US Open which is a big moment for him, a big milestone in his career,” said Eubanks. “As we’re sitting here right now the next player to win a Grand Slam, I like Jack Draper, I came really close to picking him but I’m going to go with Taylor Fritz.”
