Hometown hopeful Jenson Brooksby wowed spectators on Thursday in Indian Wells with a smashing performance over Carballes Baena 6-1 6-4.
The last time Brooksby played was in Acapulco and there he put Alexander Zverev through a very tough match. While he did lose that match, he gained a lot of confidence from it and he showed all of that today. Carballes Baena does not play his best on hard courts but if any court would suit his play it's the ones in Indian Wells.
The Spaniard rarely gets blown off the court as his game revolves around persistent play with a lot of tricky balls however nothing of that bothered Brooksby. Somewhat of a tennis unicorn himself, the American was able to assert his dominance quite early in the match. After getting an early break, Brooksby started playing even better and things snowballed from there.
He won the first set with 6-1 in only 31 minutes and opened the 2nd set with even more impressive play. The Spaniard simply had no answer and Brooksby rolled on to the cheers of the American crowd. After taking a 4-0 lead in the 2nd set, Carballes Baena finally stopped the bleeding but the match was essentially over. Brooksby finished it off with 6-4.
