5th match point. 6th Atlanta title 💪 @JohnIsner finishes off a hot week in Georgia to claim a record 6th Atlanta crown with a 7-6 7-5 win over Nakashima!
John Isner did it again as the American lifted his 6th career trophy at the Atlanta Open by defeating Brandon Nakashima 7-6(8) 7-5.
John Isner and Brandon Nakashima played a week ago in the Los Cabos semifinal with the youngster emerging victorious. He went on to lose in the final but only one week later he found himself in another final vs Isner. Similarly to this match, this too featured very good play by both players when serving. We only saw one break points on Isner's serve but Nakashima failed to convert it.
In the tiebreak, we saw many twists and turns and ample opportunities for both players. Nakashima had one set point while Isner had 3 and it was the American veteran who got the better of the youngster in the tiebreak 10-8. The 2nd set was another interesting one.
Nakashima was pretty good overall but John Isner was even better. Isner was virtually unplayable on return serving extremely well for the better part of the set. Nakashima was the same but he ran into trouble at 4-5. Isner was up 40-0 and had 3 match points however Nakashima saved all of them.
In the next game, Nakashima had two consecutive break points but failed to use them as well. In the next game, Nakashima had a chance to send it to the tiebreak but Isner carved out a single break point and used it to end the match. A good win for Isner whose experience prevailed in key moments of the match.
