Jordan Thompson prevails in spite of disruptive fan at Cincinnati Open

Australia’s Jordan Thompson was involved in an unfortunate incident at the Cincinnati Open. The competition started on Tuesday, and some of the best players in the world participated to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Thompson featured in the opening round fixture on Tuesday against France’s Ugo Humbert. During the contest, in the second set, Thompson was hackled with a fan sitting close to the changing area. "I want to see Nick Kyrgios, not Jordan Thompson,” the fan said. Later in the set, he was asked by the security to quiet, or he would be thrown out.
Despite the warning, the fan kept saying words here and there until the match was finally over. Thomson was unhappy with the fan’s reaction. However, he went on to win the match with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. He will face Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the round of 32. He defeated America’s Marcos Giron in the tournament's opening round with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 7-6. It will be the only second meeting between the two. In the only previous meeting during the first round of the Mallorca Championship in June 2022, in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
In the other matches on the day, China’s Zhizhen Zhang defeated France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6. America’s Frances Tiafoe registered a comfortable win against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6. Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka secured his place in the next round after beating Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5. America’s Alex Michelsen defeated Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor with a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Czech Republic’s Jiri Lehecka defeated Argentina’s Mariano Navone with a score of 7-6, 6-3. Italy’s Luciano Darderi, Lorenzo Musetti, America’s Ben Shelton, Brandon Nakashima and France’s Arthur Fils also secured wins in their first-round fixtures.
