Former world no. 3
Juan Martin del Potro received an award for the most accomplished Argentine player of the previous decade in Buenos Aires, spending time with another Argentine legend Gabriela Sabatini.
The Argentine hasn't played since Queen's 2019, experiencing two severe knee injuries within eight months and not being able to recover and compete again. Del Potro underwent two surgeries in 2020, doing his best to extend his career and finish it on his terms.
Juan Martin would love to fight for the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo this summer, feeling he still has a lot to offer.
"I think this is my year. The Olympic Games are pulling me along; that is the motivation that I have. The knee is giving me a lot of headaches; I can't close out my story yet. I feel like I have more to offer, and so I'll keep trying.
Sometimes I am animated for a return, and other times it's hard to envisage, but I feel there is something inside me, so I keep fighting. I want to end my career when it is right for me and not because of my health," Juan Martin del Potro said.
