Roger Federer returned to tennis after a year-long absence due to injuries and he showed a lot of promise despite some struggles.
Roger Federer made his return to tennis at the Qatar Open against Dan Evans and he was able to grind out a victory against a very inspired Brit. It took him close to two and half hours to win 7-6(8) 3-6 7-5. In the first set, he showed has was still capable of playing high-level tennis producing his signature aggressive style capped of with winners. On return, he could not do much as the Brit played a very strong match.
A slight dip in focus coupled with a few easy mistakes cost him the 2nd set but he was able to compose himself well enough in the 3rd set. The Brit held one fairly well in the match especially on his own serve where he was able to force Federer to play longer rallies which he didn't really like. In the final set, Evans had break points of his own but Federer saved those brilliantly. In the end, he was able to win the match on a beautiful backhand winner capping off a solid return to tennis.
