Jannik Sinner took to consoling Alexander Zverev in an emotional moment between the pair after the Italian took the Australian Open final win 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the end. He was seen in an embrace with him.

It is a third Grand Slam title for Sinner and another final loss to Zverev who will be wondering if not now when, he has played through the eras and stumbled across another seemingly imperious talent in Sinner who he was beaten by today.

Sinner also in his post match speech praised his outgoing coach Darren Cahill who will retire at the end of the season so they won't be together for when the Italian defends the title in 12 months time. He paid a special tribute to him as well as Simone Vagnozzi who no doubt will step up to lead him going forward from next season.

"First of all I'd like to start with Sascha. A tough day for you. You have an incredible team behind you, you're an amazing player. Keep believing in yourself. Whoever is involved in the sport knows how strong you are. I wish you all the best.

"Talking about my team, we worked a lot to be in this position. It's an amazing feeling to share this moment with all of you. It's amazing to achieve these things but also to share this with you guys.

He then turned to Darren Cahill. "It's your last Australian Open as a coach. I'm very happy to share this trophy with you. I think you're an amazing combination of coaches and I'm very happy to have you all here."

"The most important is you guys [the fans]. You cheered for me, not from the first-round match but the week before. It's an amazing atmosphere to come here, I felt your love. See you next year."
