A couple of Americans have progressed to the 2nd round of the Indian Wells Masters with Anisimova and Korda scoring wins.
Amanda Anisimova continued to play well this year with another solid performance and win. The American player took on fellow American Emma Navarro and proved too good for the talented youngster. It was far from a perfect match from Anisimova but she was able to experience the conditions and overall it's been a good practice match for her.
A 6-2 6-2 win should give her confidence moving forward as the courts do allow her to play the sort of tennis she likes to play. Joining her in the 2nd round will be fellow American Sebastian Korda who faced much tougher opposition in the like of Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Australian passed through the qualies here but he was overmatched by the ever-solid Korda.
There was not much separating the players as both played a sturdy and competitive match. They faced similar struggles on their 2nd serve however Kokkinakis handled it a bit worse. He broke his opponent twice but also lost his serve a total of four times and that was simply too much. One break advantage was enough for Korda to win the match with 6-3 6-4.
