Making his first on-court appearance since lifting the doubles title at this year's Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios looked like he hadn't lost a step as he pummeled Sebastian Baez to advance at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells tournament.
The Aussie cruised through with a 6-4 6-0 victory, requiring just an hour and 12 minutes to complete the beatdown. Although Baez tried to match his opponent in the first set, the Argentine was unable to withstand the barrage of aces from Kyrgios' racket. The former World No.13 was spectacular on serve, hitting 10 aces in the first set alone and saving both break points faced.
The second set was more relaxed for the big-hitting Australian, as Baez offered little resistance and seemingly accepted his fate. This was compounded by Kyrgios' brilliant return games, as the World No.132 attacked the Argentine's serve, winning a staggering 92% of return points.
Kyrgios is set to face another Argentine as 32nd seed Federico Delbonis awaits in the second round, with the Australian winning their lone encounter in 2015.
