Bizarre scenes ensued at the end of the 2nd set in the match between Kyrgios and Bourchier when Kyrgios clashed with the match umpire.
Occasional exchanges between tennis players and umpires are not uncommon yet following a time violation called on him,
Nick Kyrgios completely erupted and unleashed on umpire Nacho Forcadelle. New rules at events don't allow ballboys to carry towels to the players so the players have to walk themselves to get it which takes more time than usual. It caused a tight time violation called on Nick Kyrgios after which he erupted on the umpire:
“That’s my motion, mate. I’m not playing. Get [the umpire supervisor] out [here].”
Kyrgios then sat down at his chair and continued bickering with Forcadelle – despite pleas from Bourchier to play on.
“My serving motion starts from here. I don’t understand. That’s my motion. I was serving. Why do you have to call it? Why did you do it? I was in my motion serving."
Kyrgios continued his comments even taking them to another level by calling out umpires in general:
"Every technique is different. I want to hear [an explanation]. Tennis is about the umpires, right? You guys are in charge. You’re an extra for all of this.”
Finally after the supervisor emerged Kyrgios pleaded his case by saying:
“I saw the clock, it was at 3, 2, 1 and I’m pulling my serve here and he called a time violation. Tennis isn’t about him. He’s an extra so all this shit goes smoothly. He’s a smart arse and now I have to get fined for it.
He continued pleading:
“I have to go back and forth to get my towel. Why do these guys think it’s about them?”
He also explained the reasoning behind his consistent question of whether he was going to get fined for that to his countrymen on the court:
“I’ve lost enough money to these peanuts.”
So far there has not been any official ruling but it's probable that Kyrgios will get fined for his outburst and general comments during it event though his pleads had supstance this time around. Stay tuned as we will have more as the story unfolds.
